Laurel Hills sits about 1,430 feet above sea level, just off Mulholland Drive above Studio City. The streets wind, the lots are irregular, and the views open up in different directions depending on where you are. Some homes look out toward jetliner views of the Downtown skyline. Others face the surrounding hills or toward West Hollywood.

The area was originally part of the Rancho Los Feliz land grant before Los Angeles expanded west and residential development gradually took shape. By the late 1950s, Laurel Hills began to form as its own hillside pocket. Because it was not built as a single tract development, it never developed that repetitive feel.

That is one of the things that makes it compelling. You will see mid-century homes from the late 1950s and 1960s, contemporary rebuilds, Spanish and Mediterranean influences, ranch-style houses, and traditional designs, often on the same street. The architecture is heterogeneous. Each property feels individual and shaped more by topography than by a master plan.

Homes here are generally well-sized single-family residences. Many feature open living spaces, large windows, and strong indoor-outdoor connections. Some are oriented outward to capture panoramic views. Others turn inward, using courtyards, mature trees, and landscaping to create privacy.

The neighborhood is also home to the Mulholland Tennis Club, which opened in 1966. It remains a steady part of the community, offering multiple courts, swimming facilities, and a longstanding social presence.

From a practical standpoint, the neighborhood provides direct access to both sides of the hill. West Hollywood’s restaurants and nightlife are minutes away, while the grocery stores, schools, and everyday conveniences of Studio City and Sherman Oaks are just as close. Laurel Hills offers elevation without isolation and individuality without uniformity.
